Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri named as finalist for 2017 Landon Donovan MLS MVP Award

Major League Soccer on Tuesday announced the finalists for each of the 2017 year-end awards which honor the league’s top performers during the regular season.


A total of five finalists were unveiled in the race for the 2017 Landon Donovan MVP award with Portland's Diego Valeri joining Nemanja Nikolic (Chicago Fire), Miguel Almiron (Atlanta United), David Villa (NYCFC) and Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC).


Nikolic and Almiron also figure among the Newcomer of the Year finalists together with Atlanta United forward Josef Martínez (19 goals scored in 2017).


The finalists which follow below (in alphabetical order) earned the most votes in polling among three voting groups: current MLS players, MLS club technical staffs (coaches, technical directors/GMs) and a select group of media members.
