Timbers To Recognize U.S. Women's National Team on Sept. 21 at JELD-WEN Field

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers will recognize the U.S. Women’s National Team during a pre-game ceremony prior to their match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at JELD-WEN Field, it was announced today. The U.S. Women, finalists of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, play host to Canada in a friendly at JELD-WEN Field on Thursday, Sept. 22.


The U.S. Women’s National Team, ranked No. 1 in the world, returns to the field for their first matches since reaching the finals of the Women’s World Cup in July, when they take on Canada in a two-game “Celebration Series.” The friendly in Portland will feature the U.S. Women’s entire World Cup squad and be televised live on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. (PT).

The U.S. Women’s 21-player roster for the “Celebration Series” features former University of Portland standouts Stephanie Cox and Megan Rapinoe, Northwest native Hope Solo as well as star forward Abby Wambach. Prior to the friendly on Sept. 22, Solo will be honored for recently earning her 100th cap, becoming just the second U.S. Women’s goalkeeper to reach that mark.

The U.S. Women’s National Team returns to Portland for the first time since Oct. 17, 2007, making its 10th overall appearance in the Rose City. The U.S. Women have a 6-1-0 record at JELD-WEN Field.
