Timbers sign Tyler Clegg, Victor Griffith to short-term agreements from T2

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers have signed T2 defender Tyler Clegg and T2 midfielder Victor Griffith to short-term agreements ahead of tonight’s road match against Colorado Rapids, the club announced today. Kickoff for the Tuesday, July 4, match is set for 6:30pm PT with streaming available on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish as well as local radio broadcasts, 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

Clegg, 23, made his first-team debut in the Timbers U.S. Open Cup match against Orange County SC on April 26, playing 90 minutes and scoring a goal in the 3-1 win at Providence Park. The defender earned a second consecutive start for Portland in the tournament against Real Salt Lake on May 10. Drafted by the Timbers in the third round (No. 85 overall) of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft out of James Madison University, Clegg has made 15 appearances for T2 in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro campaign.

Griffith, 22, has made two appearances for the Timbers in 2023, coming off the bench against Orange County SC on April 26 and against Real Salt Lake on May 10 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He made his first-team debut in the 2022 Open Cup, earning a start in Portland’s match against LAFC on May 10. A captain of T2, Griffith has scored two goals in 13 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro competition this season. The Panamanian international has also earned 11 caps (5 starts) at the senior level.

Per MLS rules, a club may sign a player from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro or USL) to a maximum of four Short-Term Agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (maximum of 16 days). An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season. However, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four Short-Term Agreements.
