After a successful  year of giving back to the community, the Portland Timbers look to continue supporting and standing by the greater Portland area on and off the field through their programs: Active Bodies Active Minds, Adopt-a-Club, and Tix for Kids.

Active Bodies, Active Minds is an M.L.S.W.O.R.K.S. initiative presented locally by Burgerville which encourages children to live a healthy, active lifestyle. This assembly program brings Portland area elementary and middle schools, libraries and community centers fitness and nutrition information presented by Timber Joey and Community Ambassador Scot Thompson. In 2011, close to 1,000 youth were able to participate in Active Bodies, Active Minds. To apply, click here.

Adopt-a-Club, sponsored by CenturyLink, is a community program where Portland Timbers players become mentors to Portland area youth soccer clubs. Participating clubs will be selected through an application process and will be given the opportunity to participate in a free Adopt-a-Club clinic with their mentor. Clubs will also get a coaching clinic with a Community Ambassador and Timbers coach as well as the opportunity for one outstanding child to be recognized at halftime during a Timbers game. In 2011, Adpot-a-Club impacted over 3,000 youth in the Portland Area and this year the Timbers are looking to continue expanding the program’s reach.

Tix for Kids is a program that provides the opportunity for youth to come enjoy a Timbers game who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend. Thanks to Alaska Airlines, Burgerville, JELD-WEN, KPTV, NW Natural, Providence Health & Services, and PGE, the Tix for Kids program allowed 2,952 youth in 2011 to come watch a match at JELD-WEN Field. The deadline to submit applications for Adopt-a-Club is March 1, 2012. To apply online, visit www.portlandtimbers.com/adoptaclub. Tix for Kids and Active Bodies Active Minds will accept applications on a rolling basis, but early submission is encouraged, as opportunities are limited.

The Portland Timbers Stand Together mission is to harness the power of sport to improve the lives of children and families in our region through targeted programs, deep partnerships, and philanthropic giving.
