Timbers U-23s announce 2013 PDL schedule

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Timbers U-23s open their fifth Premier Development League (PDL) season, presented by Billups Worldwide, on Thursday, May 16, as they play host to Seattle Sounders FC U-23 at JELD-WEN Field, it was announced today as United Soccer Leagues announced the 2013 PDL schedule.

The Timbers U-23s, the development team of the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer, will play a 14-game, regular-season schedule against Northwest Division opponents. In addition to playing each of the six division opponents once at home and once on the road, Portland will take on both the Kitsap Pumas and Seattle a third time during the season.

Highlighting the Timbers U-23s’ home schedule, the team will play host to the fourth-annual Providence Health & Fitness Days at JELD-WEN Field. The three special day matches will feature matchups against Seattle on May 16, Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23 on Thursday, May 23, and North Sound SeaWolves FC on Friday, May 31. Featuring a host of activities, including a pre-game assembly, the school-day matches kick off at 11 a.m. (Pacific).

The Timbers U-23s will split their 2013 home schedule between JELD-WEN Field and other venues throughout the greater-Portland area.

Portland wraps up its 2013 regular season Tuesday, July 16, against the Sounders FC U-23.

ABOUT PORTLAND TIMBERS U-23s
Founded Nov. 11, 2008, the Portland Timbers U-23s, presented by Billups Worldwide, is an amateur team affiliated with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer and serves as a development platform for the club's first team. The team consists of standout players from collegiate and youth programs from Oregon, the Northwest and throughout the country, and competes in United Soccer Leagues’ Premier Development League (PDL). Since their founding, five Timbers U-23s players have signed with the first team, including goalkeeper Jake Gleeson and defender Ryan Kawulok and Timbers Homegrown Players Steven Evans and Brent Richards. The Timbers U-23s assembled an historic campaign in 2010, posting a perfect 16-0-0 record during the regular season on their way to becoming the first undefeated champion in PDL history.
