Timbers U-23s announce 2013 tryout details

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-23s, the development team for Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers, will conduct player tryouts March 9-10 and March 23-24, at Portland’s Lincoln High School as they prepare for their 2013 Premier Development League season, presented by Billups Worldwide.

The tryouts are open to players 17 years of age and older. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at the tryout. The registration fee is $125. The Timbers U-23s open the 2013 campaign on Thursday, May 16, as they play host to Seattle Sounders FC U-23 at JELD-WEN Field. The team will play a 14-game, regular-season schedule in the PDL’s Northwest Division from May to July. 

2013 Timbers U-23s Tryout Details:
Dates: March 9-10
Time: Saturday, March 9 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Pacific); Sunday, March 10 – 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Check in for both days begins at 8:15 a.m.
Fees: $125

Time: Saturday, March 23 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Pacific); Sunday, March 24 – 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Check in for both days begins at 8:15 a.m.

Other details: All participants must bring their own soccer equipment, including appropriate shoes (turf, jogging, cleats, etc.), shin guards and other soccer apparel dependent upon weather.

ABOUT TIMBERS U-23s
Founded Nov. 11, 2008, the Portland Timbers U-23s, presented by Billups Worldwide, is an amateur team affiliated with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer and serves as a development platform for the club's first team. The team consists of standout players from collegiate and youth programs from Oregon, the Northwest and throughout the country, and competes in United Soccer Leagues’ Premier Development League (PDL). Since their founding, five Timbers U-23s players have signed with the first team, including goalkeeper Jake Gleeson and defender Ryan Kawulok and Timbers Homegrown Players Steven Evans and Brent Richards. The Timbers U-23s assembled an historic campaign in 2010, posting a perfect 16-0-0 record during the regular season on their way to becoming the first undefeated champion in PDL history.
