PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers U-23s goalkeeper David Meves was named to the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week for the fifth week of the season, it was announced today by United Soccer Leagues.
Meves, 22, earns his first PDL Team of the Week selection this season. He recorded two shutouts last week in a 2-0 win against North Sound SeaWolves FC on May 31 and a scoreless draw on the road against the Kitsap Pumas on June 1.
A native of Arlington Heights, Ill., Meves has started all six matches for the Timbers U-23s this season, and leads the PDL in goalkeeper minutes played (540), wins (4) and is tied for the league lead with four shutouts. Meves and the Timbers U-23s defense have allowed just two goals this season, the fewest in the Northwest Division and tied with the Fresno Fuego for fewest in the Western Conference.
Meves is the second Timbers U-23s player selected to the PDL Team of the Week this season. Midfielder/defender Eric Miller has twice been named to the PDL Team of the Week in Weeks 3 and 4.
In first place in the Northwest Division, the Timbers U-23s (4-1-1, 13pts) continue their current four-game road stretch Sunday against the Sounders FC U-23 at Tumwater High School in Tumwater, Wash., at 2 p.m. (Pacific).
