Two Timbers U-23s players receive honorable mention on PDL Team of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers U-23s midfielder Jose Ribas and forward Mark Sherrod received honorable mention on the Premier Development (PDL) Team of the Week for the seventh week of the season, it was announced today by United Soccer Leagues.

Both Ribas (Guqyaquil, Ecuador) and Sherrod (Knoxville, Tenn.) played a key role in the Timbers U-23s comeback 2-2 draw on the road against the Kitsap Pumas on June 15 at Gordon Field in Bremerton, Wash. Trailing 2-0, the Timbers U-23s scored twice inside a five-minute span in the second half to level the score. Ribas helped set up both goals and Sherrod delivered the equalizer in the 66th minute with his first goal of the regular season.

Ribas, 20, has played in all eight regular-season matches for the Timbers U-23s this season and ranks among team leaders in shots (11) and minutes played (477).

In his second season with the Timbers U-23s, Sherrod, 22, has played in seven regular-season matches, scoring one goal and recording a team-best two assists. Sherrod, who was named PDL All-League in 2012, has played in nine of the team’s 10 matches this season across all competitions this season. It is his second honorable mention inclusion on the PDL Team of the Week in 2013.

In first place in the PDL’s Northwest Division, the Timbers U-23s play host to the Kitsap Pumas on Friday at Alder Creek Middle School in Milwaukie, Ore., at 7 p.m. (Pacific).
