Horst, acquired as the ninth overall pick in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft, joined the Timbers after three seasons as a member of Real Salt Lake. He spent much of the 2010 season on loan with the USSF Division-2 Pro League’s Puerto Rico Islanders and was a key piece of the Islanders’ run to the league title and performance in the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League.

2013: Made his season debut March 30, starting and playing the full 90 minutes of a 2-2 road draw against Colorado ... Helped the backline hold Colorado to just three shots on goal ... Underwent successful surger to repair a displaced tibial plateau fracture of his right leg on April 8; missed aproximately five months ... Sustained the injury in the first half against Houston on April 6 at JELD-WEN Field, making just his second start of the season ... Played in five games (4 starts) for the Timbers Reserves in the MLS Reserve League, logging 303 minutes ... Saw his first minutes back on the field since his April leg injury on Aug. 31, as a second-half sub for the Timbers Reserves, playing 12 minutes, against the Real Salt Lake Reserves.
2012: Appeared in 21 matches, logging 1,845 minutes and scoring one goal - all MLS career highs - in his second season in Portland ... At season’s end was named the club’s Community Player of the Year for his outstanding efforts in the community ... Played the full 90 in 20 of the club’s last 22 matches of the season ... Scored his first career MLS goal - the game-winner - in a 2-1 victory over Cascadia-rival Seattle Sounders FC on June 24 at JELD-WEN Field ... Was a four-time selection to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week in Weeks 28, 30, 32 and 33 ... Earned honorable mention on the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week in Week 16 ... Missed the first nine regular-season matches while recovering from hip surgery and made his season debut May 23 in a friendly against Spain’s Valencia CF ... Wore the captain’s armband in the regular-season finale, a 1-1 draw against San Jose on Oct. 27.
2011: Recorded an MLS career-high 15 appearances (11 starts) in his first full MLS season ... Helped the Timbers’ defense record three straight shutouts from Aug. 24-Sept. 16 ... Wore the captain’s armband in the club’s 2-0 exhibition win over Argentina’s Independiente July 26 ... Made his first start of the season April 2 in a 1-1 draw at New England ... Started and played 120 minutes in a 1-0 overtime loss to San Jose in a U.S. Open Cup play-in game May 3 ... Played a full 90 against Dutch side AFC Ajax in a friendly May 25 ... Made three appearances (all starts) for the Timbers Reserves ... Scored a goal against the Sounders FC Reserves in a 3-2 loss May 15.
2010: Was sent on loan by Real Salt Lake to the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USSF Division-2 Pro League (second division) … Played in 29 total league games during the campaign, registering a goal and two assists … Helped the Islanders to the USSF D-2 championship with a 3-1 aggregate finals series win … Aided in Puerto Rico’s deep run in the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League tournament, playing in all eight games … Scored two goals, including the game-winner, on Sept. 30 in a 3-2 win over Mexican side Toluca in group play … Was part of the Islanders’ 4-1 rout of the LA Galaxy in CONCACAF Champions League play at the Home Depot Center on July 27.
2009: Played in two league matches for 2009 MLS Cup-champion Real Salt Lake … Was called upon to start April 18 at New York … Came off the bench in a 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy on May 6, playing 21 minutes … Was loaned to the Austin Aztex of the USL First Division for two months, appearing in 10 matches and playing 900 minutes for the second-division club … Played the full 90 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying match against Seattle Sounders FC April 28 … Saw action in a pair of friendlies, including a start against CD Guadalajara of Mexico at Rio Tinto Stadium on Oct. 7 … Missed six games due to a right knee injury.
2008: Selected in the first round (14th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake … Made his debut with the first team May 27 at Columbus, starting a qualification match for the U.S. Open Cup … Started in his MLS debut Aug. 16 in a 4-3 road loss against the Houston Dynamo … Played in 11 games (10 starts) with the Real Salt Lake Reserves, logging 921 minutes … Tallied an assist with the RSL Reserves on Aug. 30 against Colorado.
COLLEGE: Played four years at Old Dominion University, leading the Monarchs to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Men’s College Cup … Started in 85 of his 88 appearances at ODU while notching two goals and five assists ... Named the Colonial Athletic Association Defender of the Year in back-to-back seasons as a junior and senior … Was a three-time all-conference selection, including All-CAA First Team nods in 2006 and 2007 … As a junior, anchored ODU’s defense which notched 10 shutouts during the 2006 season … Named to the CAA All-Rookie team following his freshman season in 2004.
PERSONAL: Earned the 2007 Premier Development League Defender of the Year award after leading the Hampton Roads Piranhas to a 14-0-2 record and a league-high 10 shutouts … Received numerous accolades while at Pine Grove High School, including being named to the Regional All-American and Pennsylvania All-State soccer teams ...
