Selected No. 8 overall in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, Kawulok was signed March 1, 2012. He became the fourth member of the Timbers development team, the Portland Timbers U-23s, to sign with the first team. Kawulok was a standout at the University of Portland during his collegiate career and earned West Coast Conference Defender of the Year following his senior campaign in 2011.

2013: Was waived by the club on May 22, 2013 ... Started four of his five appearances for the Timbers Reserves, playing 382 minutes in the MLS Reserve League ... Played all 90 minutes at a center back in a 2-1 victory against the Earthquakes Reserves on April 15 at JELD-WEN Field ... Started at left back in a 2-1 win over USL PRO side VSI Tampa Bay FC in the team's home opener April 7 at JELD-WEN Field ...
