Alvarez, Alcaraz-Cuellar named to A-League Team of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore.
- Portland Timbers forward Byron Alvarez and midfielder Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar today were named to the A-League Team of the Week for their efforts in a pair of home victories in Week 13.

Alvarez, who last week was named the league's player of the week, tallied two goals and an assist in Sunday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee at PGE Park. It was Alvarez' goal in the 90th minute that lifted the Timbers to their sixth win in seven matches.

Despite playing in just 12 matches, Alvarez ranks fourth in the A-League with nine goals scored and is tied for fifth in scoring (19 points).

Tuesday marked Alvarez' third straight selection to the Team of the Week.

Alcaraz-Cuellar scored a goal and an assist in the Timbers' 3-2 victory over El Paso last Friday. He also assisted on Alvarez' game-winning goal Sunday against the Wave United.

With six assists on the season, Alcaraz-Cuellar, who led the Timbers in assists last year, ranks second in the A-League.

McKinley Tennyson and goalkeeper Josh Saunders are the only other Timbers to have been named to the A-League Team of the Week this season. Saunders got the nod two weeks ago for two shutout performances vs. Calgary and Tennyson was honored in Week 5 for scoring two goals and dishing two assists in two wins over Calgary on May 12 and 14.
