PORTLAND, Ore.
- It was announced Tuesday that veteran Portland defender Gavin Wilkinson has been named to the A-League Team of the Week for his play in Week 18.
Wilkinson scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Indiana on August 15 and was solid in defending the back line in his last three outings, all crucial matches in the Timbers' bid to make the playoffs.
Friday's game-winner came in stoppage time at the end of the match, as Wilkinson landed a header into the net on a cross from Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar.
Playing in his third season for the Timbers, the award was the first of the year for the native of New Zealand.
Alcaraz-Cuellar, Byron Alvarez, McKinley Tennyson and Josh Saunders have also been named to the Team of the Week this season for the Timbers.
