Timbers loan goalkeeper Elfvin to Cleveland of MISL

PORTLAND, Ore.
- The Portland Timbers today announced that goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin has been loaned to the Cleveland Force of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).




Elfvin, 23, saw action in four games with the Timbers during his rookie 2004 season in the A-League, posting a pair of shutouts while starting three matches after coming on as an injury substitution in his professional debut on June 17 against Rochester.




A Cleveland Heights native who attended Ohio’s Ashland University, Elfvin, who makes his indoor debut with the Force, was 1-2-1 with a 0.84 goals-against average, allowing three goals and tallying 16 saves with the Timbers. He picked up a shutout for his first professional victory against Puerto Rico on Aug. 19 and recorded a second straight cleansheet by leading the Timbers to a scoreless draw against Minnesota on Aug. 27.




Elfvin, who signed his first professional contract with the Timbers on March 31, is the third Portland player to be loaned to an MISL team in the last two weeks, joining forward Byron Alvarez, who is playing for the Chicago Storm, and forward Dan Antoniuk, who was loaned to the San Diego Sockers to start the indoor season.




Cleveland is 0-1 thus far after a season-opening loss to Philadelphia and next takes on Alvarez’ Storm on Nov. 3.
