PORTLAND, Ore.
- United Soccer Leagues and Fox Sports World today announced their broadcast schedule for the 2005 season, and the Portland Timbers will be featured twice as part of the 20-show broadcast package in place for the upcoming season.
The Timbers’ first appearance on Fox Sports World comes on Friday, July 8, when they travel to face the Seattle Sounders at Qwest Field. Additionally, Fox Sports World returns to Portland for a second straight season, televising the Timbers’ home match against the Minnesota Thunder on Friday, Aug. 5.
To accommodate the broadcasts, both televised matches will begin at 8 p.m. (PST).
This year’s lineup features 12 USL First Division regular-season games, two USL First Division playoff matches as well as the First Division, Second Division, Premier Development League and W-League championship matches and a Super Y-League Finals and USL Season Wrap-Up Show.
USL is in its fourth year on Fox Sports World, which is available locally on Comcast Digital Cable channel 401 and via satellite on DirecTV.
The Timbers have been featured on Fox Sports World four times over the past three seasons, including twice in 2004, when they won the A-League (now USL First Division) regular-season championship with an 18-7-3 record (57 points). Last year on Fox Sports World, Portland was a 2-1 victor at Charleston on June 4 and battled to a scoreless tie against Minnesota at PGE Park on Aug. 27. In all, the Timbers are 1-2-1 in games televised on Fox Sports World.
Timbers full- and partial-season ticket plans are available now by calling (503) 553-5555.
The complete version of the Timbers' 2005 schedule will be released at a later date.
