PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers today announced their 2006 preseason exhibition schedule, a series of five matches against four area college teams.
The Timbers begin their preseason schedule on April 1 with exhibition matches against Seattle University and the University of Washington at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex on the campus of the University of Portland. Additionally, the Timbers have slated two matches against Oregon State and one against the University of Portland as they prepare for the 2006 USL First Division season.
“This is a great schedule for us because it will help the players settle into their roles and get to know each other better,” said Chris Agnello, head coach and general manager of the Timbers. “The exhibitions will also allow the players to get to know me and my coaching style better.”
The April 1 matches kick off preseason training for the Timbers, who open the regular season at Vancouver on April 22. Agnello, entering his first season with the Timbers, will have his first-team roster players in camp along with at least six trialists vying for a spot on the team.
