Timbers re-sign midfielder Edwin Miranda

PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers today re-signed midfielder Edwin Miranda, who returns for a third season with the team.

Miranda, 25, joined the Timbers prior to the 2004 season and has made 41 appearances for the club, including 27 of 28 games in 2005. Miranda has been named to the United Soccer Leagues First Division Team of the Week five times and was named the United Soccer Leagues First Division Player of the Week on week two of 2005.

“I felt that it was crucial to sign Edwin to this year’s team,” said Chris Agnello, head coach and general manager of the Timbers. “He will provide us with vital experience as well as fill an important position as a defender in the midfield.”

Prior to joining the Timbers, Miranda was a standout defender at Cal State-Northridge, where he was named as the Big West Conference’s Defender of the Year his junior and senior seasons. Miranda also finished second on the team in points (17) and assists (7) and was named first-team All-Big West Conference and first-team All-Far West Region his senior year.

“I’m very excited to be coming back and playing for the Timbers again this season,” said Miranda, who has scored five goals and tallied four assists with the Timbers. “This a young team with lots of speed and I think that’s going to win us the championship.”

The announcement brings the Timbers’ list of signed players to 17.
