Alcaraz-Cuellar named league's 'Player of the Week'

PORTLAND, Ore.
- Portland Timbers midfielder Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar today was named the USL First Division Player of the Week for Week Seven.

Alcaraz-Cuellar earned the honor after scoring a goal and tallying an assist in Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Seattle Sounders. The Timbers closed the scoring in the 87th minute when Alcaraz-Cuellar sent a pass from near midfield to the right side where a streaking Byron Alvarez took the ball in-stride. Alvarez sailed a cross back to an on-rushing Alcaraz-Cuellar, who used his momentum to knock a header straight into the back of the net for the third goal of the night.

Alcaraz-Cuellar leads the team in points (7) this season after scoring two goals and tallying three assists through 10 games.

Defender Jacobi Goodfellow also earned a spot on the league’s Team of the Week, the first time he has earned the honor this year.

The Player of the Week accolades are the first this season for Alcaraz-Cuellar, who was also named to the Team of the Week last week.

Up next, the Timbers host the Vancouver Whitecaps in a matchup of Northwest rivals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at PGE Park.
