PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers today signed midfielder Mike Chabala and forward Yuri Morales.
Chabala, 22, was drafted by the Houston Dynamo in the 2006 Major League Soccer SuperDraft and spent the first part of the season with the team, starting in three games and tallying three assists in 270 minutes playing for Houston’s reserve club.
Chabala spent his college career at the University of Washington, where he was a co-captain in his senior season.
Morales, 24, joins the Timbers after a recent trial with DC United of MLS. Before that, Morales spent two years in Denmark, where he played with Olstykke FC and Viborg FF.
In college, Morales played at the University of Massachusetts, where he served as a captain in his senior year (2002).
Both players were in uniform for tonight’s match at Virginia Beach.
