PLAYERS PARTICIPATE IN OPSL


Four players have signed up to play in the Oregon Premier Soccer League in the Portland area this off-season. Garrett Marcum and Byron Alvarez are lining up for FC Swoosh, while Scot Thompson and Lee Morrison are playing for Westside Metros. The Portland-area adult league also features several former Timbers, including Brian Winters, Kevin Legg, Jarrod Weis, Ryan Youngblood, Curtis Spiteri, Erik Cronkrite and Jake Vaughn.




THREE TIMBERS PARTICIPATE IN BEACH SOCCER WORLD CUP


Three members of the Timbers’ 2006 squad headed to the sandy beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as members of the U.S. Men’s National Beach Soccer team. Goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin and forwards Ronnie Silva and Yuri Morales played in all three matches for the United States, although the team was not able to progress out of the first round of the tournament. The team was able to beat Poland but fell to Japan and host-nation Brazil.




TIMBERS GO INDOORS


Timbers midfielder Oral Bullen and his cousin, defender Salim Bullen, have joined the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Both Bullens will feature for the Wave throughout the 30-game season, which began on November 4 and concludes on April 7, 2007. Former Timbers forward Chad Bartlomé, who scored a goal in his Portland debut in 2006, will again feature for the California Cougars.
