Timbers wrap up Week 1 of preseason

Preseason Training Notes - Day 4 – March 22, 2007




TODAY AT TRAINING:
The Portland Timbers wrapped up the first week of preseason camp at PGE Park today, and like other days during Week 1, the focus was on fitness.




NEW FACES:
New forward
Chris Bagley
joined his Timbers teammates in camp today. He has spent the last four days traveling from North Carolina. Bagley, a five-year pro, played last year for the Wilmington Hammerheads of the USL Second Division and finished the season among league leaders in scoring.




ON THE AGENDA:
After a hard week of training to kick off camp, head coach
Gavin Wilkinson
and the Timbers have a three-day weekend ahead. The team is scheduled for six days of training next week.




BY THE NUMBERS:

ABOUT THE MANAGER:
The upcoming 2007 season marks Wilkinson’s first season as a head coach, but he has been a member of the Timbers organization since it joined United Soccer Leagues in 2001. The former defender is among the Timbers franchise leaders in both games and minutes played, currently ranked third with 124 games and 10,181 minutes in a Timbers kit. Last season, Wilkinson served as a player / assistant coach under Chris Agnello. Prior to joining the Timbers, Wilkinson played professionally overseas in Ireland, Portugal, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. The New Zealand native was appointed head coach and general manager on September 26, 2006.
