Timbers defeat OUSA U23s 2-1 in Eugene Saturday

The Portland Timbers defeated the Oregon United Soccer Academy U-23 squad 2-1 in Eugene, Ore., at Sheldon High School Saturday night. Forward Jaime Ambriz tallied a goal in the first half while midfielder Kiki Lara scored on a penalty kick late in the second. The Timbers were ahead 2-0 when the OUSA squad scored late in the match to make the final score 2-1.




Assisted by new midfielder Tom Taylor, Ambriz scored in the first half to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead heading into the break.




Late in the match, sub David Hague was fouled in the box by the OUSA goalkeeper to set up the late PK. Lara delivered to give the Timbers a 2-0 lead.




OUSA scored in the closing minutes to spoil Timber goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin's clean sheet.




The Timbers starting line up featured trialist, midfielder Miguel Guante. Duarte played collegiately at the University of Portland.

Saturday's scrimmage against OUSA broke up an 11 day stretch between league matches. The Timbers face a two-game road trip through Montreal and Rochester on June 8 and 9 in their next USL First Division matches. The June 8 match in Montreal will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel; kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. (Pacific).
