Timbers icon honored with bobblehead night

PORTLAND, Ore.
 – The Portland Timbers will pay tribute to their long-time team icon, Timber Jim, July 13 at PGE Park. The first 2,000 fans receive a Timber Jim Bobblehead presented by Toyota as the Timbers play host to the California Victory at 8 p.m.
Jim Serrill, (aka “Timber Jim”) first joined the Timbers in the late 1970s during the days of the North American Soccer League (NASL). As a fan, Serrill first inquired about bringing a chainsaw to Timbers matches to help energize the crowd. Reluctant to have a chainsaw in the stands, former Timbers general manager Keith Williams invited Serrill to sit near the field and cut off a chunk of the log after each Timbers goal. His on-field role quickly expanded to revving up the crowd and he inherited the name of “Timber Jim”.
When the Timbers were re-born in 2001, Serrill didn’t hesitate to continue his role as Timber Jim. For the past seven seasons, fans have enjoyed the energy brought to PGE Park through Serrill’s trademark back flips and high-wire stunts, such as rappelling from the rafters while banging on his drum.
Tickets for Timber Jim Bobblehead Night presented by Toyota are available at the PGE Park box office, through Fred Meyer and Joe’s Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at (503) 224-4400 or online at
