Olum nets Timbers 1-0 win over Miami

PORTLAND, Ore. - Midfielder Lawrence Olum scored in stoppage time of the second half as the Portland Timbers defeated Miami FC 1-0 Saturday night at PGE Park. Portland goalkeeper Josh Wicks recorded his second consecutive shutout to tie a franchise record of six shutouts in a single season.

Portland (6-2-3, 21pts) has posted six shutouts in 11 matches this season. Earlier in the season, the Timbers defense recorded four consecutive shutouts setting a new team record.

Wicks matched a modern franchise record with his sixth shutout of the season. Matt Napoleon first set the record in 2001, the first year the Timbers competed in the USL First Division, and was last done in 2005 by former goalkeeper Josh Saunders.

Miami FC goalkeeper Gabard Fenelon recorded six saves in his debut. With the loss Miami (4-10-2, 14pts) continues their winless streak now at six matches.

Midfielder Andrew Gregor set up the game-winning goal with a free kick 65 yards from goal. Olum, who charged Gregor's ball from the far right side of the penalty box, knocked in the game's lone goal with a header inside the left post. The goal is Olum's second of the season and Gregor earned his second assist.

Miami forward Sean Fraser caused problems for the Timbers defense early in the match. In the 7th minute, he broke through the backline and received a ball over the top. Fraser worked the ball to the top of the box as Wicks charged off his line to challenge the ball. Fraser's first shot rattled off the far post, he collected the rebound and his second shot attempt was deflected by defender Leonard Griffin out of play.

Portland will play the California Victory three straight times starting on July 7 in California. The Timbers will host the Victory on July 13 and 15 at PGE Park.
