Justin Thompson earns pair of honors

PORTLAND, Ore. –
Portland Timbers defender Justin Thompson’s game-winning goal in a 1-0 win on Aug. 23 was selected as the USL First Division Goal of the Week for Week 19. Thompson was also chosen by fans as the Timbers’ “Man of the Month” for August.
In the Timbers’ regular-season home finale at PGE Park on Aug. 23, Thompson scored his first goal of the season to help Portland earn a 1-0 win over the Charleston Battery. In the 79th minute, Thompson looped a loose ball from 23 yards out inside the far post over Battery goalkeeper Dusty Hudock. received the honor in Week 4.
Thompson, 26, was named the team’s “Man of the Month” for the month of August by fans through a poll at

. In August, Thompson was an important component of the Timbers defense that allowed just seven goals in eight matches and recorded three shutouts. He earned his second USL First Division Team of the Week selection with his goal last week.
In 21 matches this season, Thompson has logged 1,845 minutes and tallied one goal and one assist. He also scored a goal in U.S. Open Cup action against the Seattle Sounders on June 26. Thompson joined the Timbers this season in May after playing the last two with England’s Worcester City FC.
