Bayard Elfvin
, a member of the 2007 Portland Timbers, continues his professional indoor career, joining Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) expansion club New Jersey Ironmen for the 2007-08 season. Elfvin, who enters his fourth season in the MISL, joined the club for preseason workouts earlier this week.
Elfvin was selected by New Jersey 14th overall in the 2007 MISL Expansion Draft and signed a multi-year contract with the Ironmen in July. New Jersey begins its inaugural season on Oct. 26.
“Having played for me in the past, Bayard will be very familiar with the system of play we will have here in New Jersey,” said Ironmen head coach Omid Namazi. “I am looking forward to a break out year by Bayard and establishing himself as one of the premier goalkeepers in the MISL.”
After beginning his indoor career with the Cleveland Force during the 2004-05 season, Elfvin has since played for the St. Louis Steamers (2005-06) and California Cougars (2006-07). Last season with California, Elfvin started nine matches, logged 497 minutes and stopped 87 of 145 shots for a 0.60 save percentage.
With the Timbers in 2007, Elfvin logged 135 minutes, allowed two goals and made four saves in two matches; he also earned the team’s only victory in the U.S. Open Cup tournament with a 2-0 shutout over the Bakersfield Brigade (Premier Development League) in June.
In three seasons with Portland (2004, 2006-07), Elfvin has appeared in 12 matches, making 45 saves, recording five shutouts and registered a 1.02 goals-against average.
Elfvin joins other USL First Division players on the Ironmen roster, including defender Lazo Alavanja (Charleston Battery), and forwards Mauricio Salles (Montreal Impact) and Fredrico Moojen (Montreal Impact).
