Timbers to broadcast 2008 home games in Spanish

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers announced today a new partnership with KXPD “La X” 1040 AM to broadcast all regular-season home matches during the 2008 season in Spanish throughout the greater-Portland area. La X 1040 AM is a member of Churchill Media’s local La X network.
The Timbers’ new Spanish-language broadcast will feature a 25-minute pregame show and the play-calling of Fernando Sobrevilla. La X 1040 AM will also cover Timbers’ playoff, exhibition and U.S. Open Cup matches at PGE Park during the 2008 season.

In addition to match broadcasts, the Timbers will also team with La X 1040 AM on outreach efforts in the Latino community through a number of appearances and special events.

In conjunction with La X 1040 AM, a select number of the Timbers’ 2008 home matches will also be broadcast in Spanish on KLZS 1450 AM in Eugene. KLZS is a member of the La X network and an ESPN Deportes affiliate.
Timbers 2008 season tickets, starting as low as $142.50, are now available. The first 100 fans who purchase season tickets prior to Jan. 7 receive a wood slab from Timber Jim’s famous pole at PGE Park autographed by 2007 Timbers players. KXPD 1040 AM is one of three stations affiliated with La X, the Northwest’s cutting-edge Spanish-language radio network. Under the Churchill Media umbrella, the station features news, sports, talk and various genres of music. By combining local shows from each of the affiliate stations, the La X network is able to create high-quality programming that serves listeners in several markets including Portland, Eugene and Yakima, Wash.
A member of United Soccer Leagues First Division, the Timbers play all regular-season home matches at PGE Park. Joining the USL First Division in 2001, the Timbers assembled one of the club’s best seasons in modern-franchise history in 2007. Under 2007 USL First Division Coach of the Year Gavin Wilkinson, the Timbers finished second in the league (14-5-9, 51pts) and made their first appearance in the USL First Division semifinals. In 2007, the Timbers led the league in fewest goals allowed and shutouts, and assembled an unbeaten regular-season home record (8-0-6) at PGE Park.
