Timbers Beat: That about covers it ...

PORTLAND, Ore.
– Fighting the bitter cold, snow flurries and rain over the last three days, work crews have continued to lay down the new state-of-the-art FieldTurf playing surface at PGE Park. Today, the group of nearly a dozen workers laid down the final few rolls of new FieldTurf and attached them to the sheet of turf they put down over the weekend.
As the final rolls of FieldTurf are laid into place, the next step is to properly secure the new playing surface to the asphalt foundation and trim the excess surface from around the warning-track area.
Crews have also uncovered the new trays that will replace the dirt in the baseball cutouts for soccer and football matches at PGE Park. They’ll customize the trays to fit their appropriate spots around the park in the weeks ahead.
A break in the wet weather will help crews complete the next major step - inserting FieldTurf’s specialized mix of sand and rubber between the three-inch blades of artificial grass. The infill will be approximately two inches thick.
Stay tuned as the crews enter the final stages of the new FieldTurf installation. More pictures to come …
