Now two weeks into preseason training camp, the Timbers’ preparation for the upcoming 2008 season has consisted primarily of training. The Timbers will participate in three preseason matches over the next three weeks leading up to the season. Portland faces Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes on March 28, Gonzaga University on March 30 and University of Portland on April 11.
Final pieces of the FieldTurf puzzle:
Following the Timbers training Friday, work crews spent time fitting and preparing portions of the customized FieldTurf trays that will fill the baseball cutouts for soccer and football games at PGE Park. Designed to independently hold its own layers of the specialized infill, each tray will be assembled and filled by hand. Each cutout will consist of about eight trays weighing 800 pounds each. A customized machine will be used to place and remove each tray during field conversions at PGE Park.
