The Portland Timbers face the University of Portland Pilots in their final preseason match Friday at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. The Timbers begin the 2008 USL First Division regular season April 17 at PGE Park.
Tickets for Portland’s third and final preseason match are $7 for adults and $5 for children 18 and under. Tickets are available at the University of Portland box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (503) 224-4400. Friday’s match marks the end of the Timbers’ five-week, preseason training camp which began March 10.
The Timbers’ 2008 roster features three University of Portland alumni in midfielders
Andrew Gregor
(1994-97) and
Miguel Guante
(2002-05) and forward
Chris Brown
(1995-98). All three players earned All-West Coast Conference honors during their time at UP. Gregor, who led the Timbers in scoring with eight goals and five assists in 2007, was named the WCC’s Freshman of the Year in 1994.
The Timbers are 1-1-0 in the preseason, including a 1-0 win over Gonzaga University on March 30. The Timbers suffered a 2-1 loss to Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes on March 28 in their first preseason game.
