Chris Brown and Shaun Higgins netted goals as the Portland Timbers continued their home dominance with a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Thunder at PGE Park Thursday night. Click here for a full match report.
Higgins scored on a feed from Andrew Gregor in the 66th minute for the game-winner. The Timbers have not been defeated in a regular-season home game since 2006.
Brown gave the Timbers the early lead, but an unmarked man in the 41st minute opened the door for the Thunder to tie it.
Aaron Paye tapped in the equalizer shortly before halftime. He was left alone in front of the Timbers goal, guiding home a perfect feed from the left side by Ricardo Sanchez.
Brown gave the Timbers the early advantage when he beat a diving Nic Platter in the ninth minute.
It was the first match of the post-Timber Jim era. The team is featuring a few guest lumberjacks over the coming games to continue the tradition of cutting log slabs after Portland goals. Joey Webber dutifully filled in this evening as the club considers the appropriate way to fill the considerable shoes of the legendary Timber Jim, who put on one heck of a performance during his going-away party during the Timbers' victory over Puerto Rico.

Oh, yeah, don't forget the Timbers are taking on the rival Seattle Sounders at PGE Park on Saturday night. You won't want to miss this intense rivalry.
