Guante receives Team of the Week honors

United Soccer Leagues today announced that Portland Timbers midfielder
Miguel Guante
was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 7. Guante aided in the team's road win against the Montreal Impact as part of a two-game road trip over the weekend.
On May 30, the Timbers snapped a six-match winless streak with a 1-0 win over Montreal. Forward Chris Brown found this fourth goal of the season in the 45th minute to secure the victory. Guante recorded two shots in the contest.
Two days later against the Rochester Rhinos, Guante came on as a substitute and helped the Timbers find the equalizer in the 78th minute of a 2-1 loss. Midfielder
Andrew Gregor
sent a free kick into the box allowing Guante the opportunity to get a foot on a loose ball. Rhinos goalkeeper Scott Vallow was able make a reaction save to keep Guante's shot from going in, but Portland defender
Justin Thompson
was there to fire home the rebound.
Guante, 23, has recorded a goal in nine games (seven starts) in his first season with the Timbers. A second-year professional, Guante began his professional career last season with the Miami FC Blues. His Team of the Week selection is the first of his career.
The Timbers play host to the Minnesota Thunder on Thursday at PGE Park at 7 p.m. before heading back on the road for a match against the league-leading Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday. Tickets for Thursday's match start at $11 and are available through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (503) 224-4400.
