PORTLAND, Ore. – United Soccer Leagues today announced that Portland Timbers defender Leonard Griffin was selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 8. Griffin and the Timbers recorded their seventh shutout of the season against the Minnesota Thunder last week.
Griffin, 25, earned his first USL First Division Team of the Week selection of the season after aiding in the Timbers’ shutout performance in a scoreless draw against the Thunder on June 5 at PGE Park. In that match, Griffin took two shots and nearly found his first goal of the season. The Timbers played two matches in three days last week.
The Timbers open a series of three games in five days tonight as they play host to Hollywood United in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup. Portland also faces the Atlanta Silverbacks on Thursday and Juventus Primavera in their first exhibition match of the season on Saturday at PGE Park presented by Peroni Italy.
