Morelia earns 3-1 win over Timbers in Seattle

Two second-half goals by Monarcas Morelia helped the Mexican side defeat the Timbers 3-1 at Memorial Stadium in Seattle, Wash., on Sunday.

A foul inside the box on Portland helped Morelia take a 1-0 lead heading into the break. Former U-23 Mexican National Team striker Luis Angel Landin stepped up and slotted home his penalty kick attempt past Timbers goalkeeper Brad Knighton.

Morelia scored again in the second half to give them a two-goal advantage before Timbers guest player Sanna Nyassi volleyed in a free kick from Bryan Little inside the far post to pull one back.

But moments later, Morelia answered back with their final tally of the night to earn a 3-1 win.

Following their two matches against the Timbers last week, Morelia returns to Mexico to continue their preseason training. They'll make one last trip to the United States later this month to play their final tune up match in California.
