In their last three matches, the Timbers are 0-1-2 but have found a spark offensively. Portland has scored three goals, two of which were assisted, over the previous three matches all without leading scorer Chris Brown who was serving a three-match, league-imposed suspension. Forward
Bryan Jordan
has contributed in the last three matches with two goals and an assist.
The Timbers are in a two-way tie with Montreal at 25 points. The league table is extremely tight. Portland sits just one point from the bottom of the table, but is just three points from sliding into sixth place with the Rochester Rhinos. The top seven clubs advance to the USL First Division playoffs.
Forward
Chris Brown
and defender
Scot Thompson
return to action for Portland tonight following league imposed disciplinary action for recent red cards. Brown finished a three-match suspension, while Thompson served just a single-game suspension against Charleston last weekend.
Since joining the USL First Division in 2001, the Timbers are 4-2-2 against the Impact and have out-scored their Canadian counterparts 7-3 in their eight meetings. The Timbers are 1-2-1 against Montreal at PGE Park, recording their only win on Aug. 29, 2002 (3-0) - Montreal did not visit Portland during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
