Alvarez nets USL First Division Goal of the Week

PORTLAND
, Ore. –
Portland Timbers forward Byron Alvarez received USL First Division Goal of the Week honors with his strike against the Miami FC Blues on Sept. 4 at PGE Park, it was announced over the weekend by United Soccer Leagues.
Alvarez, 29, scored his first goal of the season in the third minute of the Timbers’ 4-0 win over the Blues at PGE Park in early September. Defender Scot Thompson served a cross from the right touchline over the box to Alvarez all alone near the penalty spot. Alvarez headed his shot inside the near post to give Portland an early lead and set the tone for a four-goal outburst against the Blues.
