PORTLAND, Ore.
– United Soccer Leagues announced today that three Portland Timbers were selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 4. Midfielders
Brian Farber
and
Ryan Pore
and goalkeeper
Chris Seitz
each received weekly honors.
All three players contributed in the Timbers’ win and draw against the Carolina RailHawks last week at PGE Park. Seitz recorded shutouts in both games against Carolina, while Pore and Farber each scored in the team’s 2-0 win over the RailHawks on May 2.
Farber, 27, made his first start of the season and scored his first goal as a member of the Timbers in the team’s victory over Carolina on Saturday. He scored the team’s go-ahead goal in the fourth minute, finishing a cross into the box from Pore. Farber made his Timbers debut in the Timbers’ first game against the RailHawks on April 30, entering the match as a sub in the second half.
Pore, 25, recorded a three-point performance against the RailHawks to lead the Timbers to their first win of the season over the weekend. After assisting Farber’s goal in the first half, he netted his first goal of the season in the 83rd minute from the top of the box. Pore totaled five shots over the Timbers’ two games against Carolina.
Seitz, 22, played in both games against Carolina while on a short-term loan from Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake. In his two matches with the Timbers, he recorded 15 saves and earned a pair of shutouts. Seitz was called upon to fill in for injured goalkeeper
Steve Cronin
and has since returned to his MLS side.
Week 4 marks the Timbers’ first selections to the USL First Division Team of the Week in 2009. Last season, Portland had 13 different players earn Team of the Week honors.
