Timbers U-23s add Guante, Ukah to roster

PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers U-23s announced today the team has added midfielder
Miguel Guante
for the 2009 Premier Development League season. Guante joins the Timbers U-23s after undergoing off-season surgery.
Additionally, forward
Warren Ukah
has committed to an amateur contract with the Timbers U-23s as he continues to recover from off-season surgery. He has been on trial with the club’s first team since Monday, and his inclusion in the Timbers U-23s’ matches this weekend continues his trial process.
Guante, 24, played for the Timbers’ first team in 2008, appearing in 28 matches and scoring two goals. He also contributed in the organization’s philanthropic efforts last season and was named the Timbers Community Player of the Year.
A native of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Guante attended the University of Portland, where he was a four-time All-West Coast Conference selection. He started his career in 2007 with the USL First Division’s Miami FC Blues.
Ukah, 24, played the past three seasons with the Atlanta Silverbacks of the USL First Division, scoring 10 goals in 44 matches.
The Timbers U-23s begin a series of matches on back-to-back nights Friday against the Spokane Spiders at PGE Park at 7 p.m. The Timbers U-23s play host to the Yakima Reds Saturday at PGE Park; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Ticket packages that include admission into Friday’s and Saturday’s match are available for $10 through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at
