Timbers U-23s dealt 1-0 loss in Kitsap

BREMERTON, Wash.
– Reduced to 10 men, the Portland Timbers U-23s were dealt a 1-0 loss by the Kitsap Pumas on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in a showdown between the top two clubs in the Premier Development League’s Northwest Division.

was sent off in the 23rd minute with a straight red card issued by referee Shahram Pourazari. Following the foul, Kitsap’s Matt Friesen placed his free kick into the back of the net past Portland goalkeeper

for the lead.




The Timbers U-23s (5-2-1, 16pts) entered Saturday’s match in first place in the Northwest Division with a two point lead over the Pumas. With the win, Kitsap (5-0-2, 17pts) moved back to the top of the division table and remains unbeaten on the season.




The Pumas, one of two professional PDL teams in the Northwest Division, held Portland to just five shots on the night – the fewest taken by the Timbers U-23s in a single game this season.




The Timbers U-23s continue their stretch of away matches on Sunday, June 14 as they face the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency at Simon Fraser University at 2 p.m. The team returns home on June 21, as it plays host to the Tacoma Tide at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Park Stadiumat in Forest Grove, Ore.
