Timbers U-23s set to host Tacoma Tide Sunday

PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers U-23s return home to play host to the Tacoma Tide at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove, Ore., on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Timbers U-23s play three of their next four games at home starting Sunday.




Tickets for Sunday’s match are just $5 and will be available at the door; gates open at 2 p.m.




The Timbers U-23s currently sit in second place in the Premier Development League’s Northwest Division in a two-way tie with the Seattle Wolves at 19 points. Portland (6-2-1, 19pts) has out-scored its opponents 8-4 over its last four matches, leading to three victories in that span. The Timbers U-23s have scored a division-leading 24 goals through nine games this season.




Sunday’s match is the second and final regular-season meeting between the Timbers U-23s and Tacoma this season. On May 23, a strike by Timbers U-23s midfielder

in the first minute sealed a 1-0 win over the Tide in Tacoma, Wash.




Tacoma (2-3-3, 9pts) has lost two straight and is winless in its last three matches. Last weekend, the Tide were handed a 4-1 loss by the Yakima Reds on the road. Tacoma’s roster features several former professional players, including midfielder Leighton O’Brien and defender Adam West, who last played for the USL First Division Seattle Sounders. The Timbers U-23s continue their stretch of home matches on Sunday, June 28, as they open a special doubleheader at PGE Park at 1 p.m., against the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency.
