PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers announced today the signing of defender and former U.S. U-23 National Team member
Steve Purdy
for the 2010 season, pending U.S. Soccer Federation approval. Purdy played last season with FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.

Purdy, 24, started his professional career in Germany with TSV 1860 Munich in 2007. He was a member of the 2.Bundesliga club for two seasons, playing in 26 total matches with the reserve squad. In 2009, Purdy returned to the United States to join FC Dallas and played in five games for the MLS side; his time on the field was limited due to injury.

A native of Morgan Hill, Calif., Purdy played on the international stage for the U.S. National Team at the U-18, U-20 and U-23 levels. In 2007, he was called in to camp with the senior U.S. National Team and was available for selection in a match against Switzerland. Purdy was among the player pool for the U.S. U-23 National Team in 2008.

At the University of California, Purdy started 80 of his 82 career matches, recording seven goals and six assists. A four-time All-Pac-10 selection, Purdy led the Golden Bears to the conference championship as a senior in 2006, and following the season, was named a second-team All-American by College Soccer News and the NSCAA.
