Timbers U-23s, Providence host School Day Tuesday

PORTLAND, Ore.
– Featuring a match against the Tacoma Tide at 11 a.m., the Portland Timbers U-23s play host to their first Health and Fitness Soccer School Day, presented by Providence Health & Services, on Tuesday at PGE Park.




The day begins at 9 a.m. with a special Providence Health Fair, where kids can learn about health and nutrition as well as respiratory and heart health at various stations around the concourse at PGE Park.




Focused on health and fitness-related topics, Providence experts and Timbers players will lead a special pre-game assembly, covering injury prevention and recovery, nutrition and respiratory and cardiology systems presentations, starting at 10 a.m.




At halftime, members of the Portland Timbers professional team will perform skills demonstrations and will then be available for autographs throughout the second half.




Tickets for the event are $5 and are available for purchase at the PGE Park box office. Season-long passes for all seven remaining regular-season home matches for the Timbers U-23s are available for just $20. For more information on the passes, visit

The Timbers U-23s are the development team for the USSF Division-2 Pro League’s Portland Timbers. An amateur team, they compete in United Soccer Leagues’ Premier Development League (PDL) and feature local standouts as well as current collegiate players. The PDL is North America’s top league and development ground for young, up-and-coming players.




On Tuesday, the Timbers U-23s and Tide square off in the first of two regular-season meetings in 2010. Last season, the Timbers U-23s defeated Tacoma in both matchups on their way to a second-place finish in the Northwest Division.




Over the weekend, the Timbers U-23s recorded a 3-1 victory against the Washington Crossfire in their 2010 PDL season opener at PGE Park. Forward
