Timbers U-23s' Gleeson named to Team of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. -
United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers U-23s goalkeeper
Jake
Gleeson
was named to the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week.

Last week, Gleeson logged 15 saves in three shutout performances to help the Timbers U-23s record wins over the Tacoma Tide, Yakima Reds and Spokane Spiders. The three wins improved the team’s record to 4-0-0 (12 pts) to start the 2010 campaign. Gleeson becomes the second member of the Timbers U-23s to earn PDL Team of the Week honors this season.

Gleeson, 19, is a member of the New Zealand U-20 National Team, and has represented his country both the U-17 and U-20 levels. In 2007, he led the Junior All-Whites to the U-17 Oceania Football Confederation championship and a berth into the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Korea.

The Timbers U-23 play host to the Victoria Highlanders at PGE Park on Sunday at PGE Park at 11 a.m. Tickets are $5 and are available for purchase at the PGE Park box office.
