Timbers U-23s play host to Yakima Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore.
– On a six-game winning streak, the Portland Timbers U-23s play host to the Yakima Reds on Saturday at Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver, Wash., at 7 p.m. Saturday marks the Timbers U-23s’ final home match in June, as the club finishes the month with a series of road games.




Tickets for the match against Yakima are $5 for both adults and youth and will be available for purchase at the door.




The Timbers U-23s (6-0-0, 18pts) claimed first place in the Premier Development League’s Northwest Division with a 3-0 win over the Kitsap Pumas at home on June 5. Midfielder

scored the go-ahead goal to lead the Timbers U-23s to their first win over the Pumas since joining the PDL in 2009.

The Timbers U-23s and Reds (2-6-0, 6pts) conclude their two-game, regular-season series on Saturday. In the first meeting on May 22, the Timbers U-23s posted a 2-0 win over the Reds on the road, receiving goals from
Roberto Farfan
and
Ricky Abrego
, and four saves from Gleeson. In the three all-time matchups between the two clubs, the Timbers U-23s are 3-0-0 against the Reds.




Following Saturday’s fixture, the Timbers U-23s play their final three games of the month on the road, starting with a two-game trip to face the Abbotsford Mariners on June 19 and Whitecaps Residency June 20.

Yakima ends a stretch of six consecutive road matches on Saturday when it visits the Timbers U-23s. The Reds have won two of their last four games, defeating the Washington Crossfire and Vancouver Whitecaps Residency on the road. Goalkeeper Claudio Lazar was named to the PDL’s Team of the Week on Wednesday, following his 12-save performance in a shutout against Washington.
