Timbers 2010 playoff tickets go on sale Friday

PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers announced today that playoff tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through the club’s ticket office. The Timbers’ first-round home playoff match will be held at the University of Portland’s Merlo Field.

Playoff tickets will be sold in a three-game strip for $65; all playoff tickets are general admission. Strips include a ticket for the first round as well as possible semifinal and championship series home matches. Starting Friday, playoff strips are available by calling the Timbers ticket office at (503) 553-5555.

Playoff strips at a discounted rate of $37 are available to season ticket holders for the Timbers’ inaugural Major League Soccer season in 2011. Fans with 2011 season tickets may also purchase their 2010 playoff strips in advance of the on-sale date Friday. To purchase 2011 MLS season tickets, call the Timbers ticket office at (503) 553-5555.

With renovation work at PGE Park already taking place in preparation for the 2011 MLS season, the Timbers will host their USSF D-2 Pro League playoff matches at alternate venues in the greater-Portland area, starting with Merlo Field in the first round.

Only 3,900 playoff strips will be made available for purchase due to limited capacity at Merlo Field and other possible home playoff venues. A select number of individual tickets will be made available on match day.

The date and kickoff time for the first-round playoff match at Merlo Field will be announced at a later time. A venue for possible future playoff rounds will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Timbers have already secured one of eight postseason berths in the USSF Division-2 Pro League. The league’s top eight clubs – regardless of conference affiliation – advance to the postseason, with the two conference leaders occupying the top two seeds.

The USSF D-2 Pro League playoff format features a two-game, aggregate-goals series for the first, semifinal and championship rounds. All eight playoff clubs compete in the first round, with winners advancing to the semifinals. First-round matches will be played the week of Oct. 4.

The Timbers’ opponent in the first round will be determined during the final weeks of the regular season. Portland will compete in the postseason for the seventh time since 2001, and has advanced to the semifinals twice in the last three seasons (2007, 2009).
