Portland Soccer Roundup: MLS App Hits iPhones

MLS has launched its first iPhone application, just in time for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The FREE “MLS Matchday 2010” app gives fans an easy way to follow every game live, with play-by-play and video highlights.


MLSSoccer.com also provides this list of the top-5 soccer iPhone apps, including a version of everyone’s favorite game, FIFA 11.


MLS Commissioner Don Garber hints that the MLS may use an unbalanced schedule in 2011 instead of the traditional, balanced 34-game slate that has been used for the past decade.

USL Timbers all-time leading scorer Byron Alvarez (2003-06; 2008) has signed on with the Missouri Comets of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Alvarez spent the last two seasons with the Monterrey LaRaZa, winning the MVP award for the National Indoor Soccer League in 2008.


Oregon State women’s goalie Colleen Boyd claimed NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for the Oct. 17 weekend and has the Beavers at 11-1-1, 3-0 in the Pac-10. That’s pretty good for someone who didn’t even play goalie in high school.


In a football-crazed state, Woodburn High School is serious about soccer.
