CenturyLink Man of the Match vs. Chicago Fire: Eric Brunner

MOTM vs. Fire, 5.20.12

With a recent general drought of goals for the Portland Timbers, it came down to an opportune centerback to put the Timbers on the board.

On Sunday against the Chicago Fire, Timbers defender Eric Brunner was in the right place on a 20th minute corner kick from Franck Songo’o. First headed by Hanyer Mosquera, then bounced off Kris Boyd, Brunner wasted no time in firing it home and putting Portland on the board.

Then on defense, Brunner helped deflect the late Fire onslaught as they looked to equalize. Brunner was more than up to the task. Troy Perkins had some expert saves, Mosquera was equally great on the backline, Lovel Palmer held the middle, and Rodney Wallace was speedy on the flank.

But with the goal and the defense, it was Eric Brunner who ended up with 64% of the vote. He is your CenturyLink Man of the Match vs. Chicago Fire.

Eric Brunner - 64%
Troy Perkins - 29%
Rodney Wallace - 4%
Hanyer Mosquera - 3%
Lovel Palmer - 1%
