Timbers U-23s Mark Sherrod selected to 2012 PDL All-League Team

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers U-23s forward Mark Sherrod was selected to the 2012 Premier Development League All-League Team, it was announced today by United Soccer Leagues. The 2012 PDL All-League Team was selected through a vote of team management.

Selected as one of the PDL’s top performers from the league’s 73 teams this season, Sherrod finished his first season with the Timbers U-23s as one of the PDL’s top scorers with 10 goals and three assists during the 2012 regular season. He was named to the 2012 PDL All-Western Conference Team on Monday.

Sherrod, 21, became just the third player in Timbers U-23s history to score 10 or more goals in a single season and was the Western Conference’s leading scorer this season. He paced a Timbers U-23s attack that shared the Northwest Division lead in goals scored at 35 over 16 regular-season games. Additionally, he was twice named to the PDL Team of the Week (Weeks 2 and 3), including Player of the Week honors for Week 3.

The Timbers U-23s finished the 2012 season in second place in the PDL’s Northwest Division and reached the Western Conference semifinals for a second time in three seasons.

The Knoxville, Tenn., native becomes just the third player in Timbers U-23s team history to earn PDL All-League honors, joining former players Freddie Braun (2010) and Brent Richards (2009-11), who were both named to the PDL All-League Team in 2010.

Sherrod is one of three players from the Northwest Division listed on the 2012 PDL All-League Team.
