Goals & Saves: Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Portland Timbers - Oct. 6, 2013

Darlington Nagbe, Timbers @ Whitecaps, 10.6.13

In a classic Cascadia Cup rivalry match at BC Place in British Columbia, the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps battled head-to-head in the first half with a few chances to speak of for either side.

In the 41st minute after the TImbers continued patient pressure into the attacking third, Will Johnson found Darlington Nagbe just ouside the arc. Nagbe collected the ball, spun on his defender and unleashed a spectacular upper 90 golazo to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead.

The Whitecaps kept working it in the second half and in the 76th minute, Camilo broke through with a long free kick strike to make it 1-1.

But on the ensuing kickoff, the Timbers stormed down the middle of the pitch. Captain Will Johnson smashed in a ball from the top of the 18 to give the Timbers a 2-1 lead in the 77th minute.

And the breckneck pace continued through into the 78th minute. Vancouver's Camilo scored his second of the match on an aerial side volley to make the score 2-2.

As Vancouver added pressure late to find a go-ahead strike, Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts stood tall to keep his team in the game. First in the 92nd minute, he denied Caps' defender Young-Pyo Lee.

Moments later, he dove to his right to deny Kekutah Manneh.
