Rachel Buehler, Alex Morgan called up for U.S. Women's National Team Training Camp

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC defender Rachel Buehler and forward Alex Morgan were named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for a training camp running from Dec. 3-15 at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center in Carson, Calif., it was announced today.


Buehler and Morgan each made appearances as second-half substitutes in the final game of 2013 for the U.S. Women’s National Team, a 4-1 win over Brazil on Nov. 10 in Orlando, Fla. The United States finished its 2013 schedule with a 13-0-3 record.

Buehler, 28, appeared in 10 games (6 starts) this year for the United States, recording two goals in 653 minutes of action while also collecting her milestone 100th international cap on March 6 in a 3-0 win over Iceland. The Thorns FC defender finished the year with 108 career caps.

Morgan, 24, a finalist for FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year, registered six goals and four assists in 12 appearances for the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2013. Morgan’s 16 points ranked fourth on the team in scoring during the year.

The two-week camp will be the longest training period head coach Tom Sermanni has had with the squad since taking over the team last January.

Twenty players on the training camp roster played in the National Women’s Soccer League last season.
