PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC today announced that newly signed midfielder Amber Brooks and defender Rachel Buehler have been called up by the U.S. Women’s National Team for a training camp Jan. 8-15 at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif.

Brooks and Buehler are among the 28 players called into camp by U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Tom Sermanni. Following the camp, Sermanni will select a roster for the team’s first match of 2014 as it plays host to Canada at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on Friday, Jan. 31; kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (Pacific) and the match will be televised on FOX Sports 1.

Thorns FC forward Alex Morgan, a regular for the U.S. Women’s National Team, is unavailable to participate in the training camp as she continues to rehabilitate an ankle injury sustained while on national team duty.

Brooks, 22, made her U.S. Women’s National Team debut Nov. 10, 2013, starting in a 4-1 win over Brazil. She has been a key starter for the United States at multiple youth levels, and served as captain for the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team as the team won the 2012 Four Nations Tournament. Brooks also competed in the 2008 U-17 and 2010 U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cups.

Buehler, 28, has 108 caps with the U.S. Women’s National Team since making her team debut in 2008. She appeared in 10 games (6 starts) for the United States in 2013, recording two goals in 653 minutes of action as the team finished the year with a 13-0-3 record. Buehler made her 100th senior international appearance March 6, 2013, in a 3-0 win over Iceland.

The U.S. Women’s National Team roster for the upcoming camp includes 24 players signed by NWSL clubs.
